The president and CEO of a prominent Birmingham nonprofit is retiring.
Jeanne Jackson, President and CEO of the Women’s Fund of Greater Birmingham, has announced she will retire after more than six years in the top spot at the organization.
“I’ve had the privilege of partnering with phenomenal community leaders and heads of agencies who work tirelessly to bring economic and social justice to low-income women and their families,” Jackson said in an email announcing her retirement. “Thanks to our committed Board, professional staff, and incredibly generous donors like you, The Women’s Fund is in its strongest position since its creation 20 years ago.”
During her tenure at the helm of the Magic City non-profit — an organization committed to improving economic opportunities for women and girls in the area — Jackson and the fund have amassed an impressive list of accomplishments:
  • Completed a $5 million campaign and launched Collaboration Institute 3.0, our most ambitious initiative for systemic change to address generational poverty.
  • Supported programs that created positive change for more than 3,400 women since 2013, including 372 single mothers enrolled in post-secondary education.
  • Invested over $1.8 million in training hundreds of first responders on sex trafficking of minors and increasing the economic security of single mothers.
  • Launched Smart Party, one of the first crowdfunding events in Birmingham, and honored 52 amazing women since 2012.
  • Advocated for stronger limits on payday loans, licensing of childcare centers, and workplace policies favorable to working mothers.

Jackson leaves the organization in the hands of incoming Board chair Leslie Carlisle and Tracey Morant Adams as chair-elect. The Board will conduct a national search for her replacement with Lisa Engel chairing the Search Committee.

I’m optimistic that the next leader of The Women’s Fund will build on the momentum created to take the organization of the next level,” added Jackson.

“I’ll miss the tireless agency directors, our marvelous donors, and especially the mothers I’ve met who are working so hard for a better life for their families. I look forward to hiking and traveling with my husband, spending more time with my children and grandson, and enjoying long lunches with many of you. Rest assured that my passion for greater equality and justice for women and girls will not diminish.”
