During its regular Tuesday night weekly meeting, the Montgomery City Council voted to approve the sale of property to allow the recently opened Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) to expand.

The council approved the sale of property, a parking lot, located at 401 North Perry St., to EJI to open an entertainment center. The space is 0.4 miles away from EJI.

According to the Montgomery Advertiser, the group is looking to “possibly add a restaurant, more retail space and a bus shuttle location.”

The National Memorial for Peace and Justice, a six-acre site overlooking the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery opened to the public on April. It is a project of EJI. Since that time, more than 200,000 visitors have come through the site.
