Robert Aderholt Official4th District U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt:

House Committee on Appropriations:  Ranking member on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee; Also on Subcommittees on Agriculture and Defense.

Mo Brooks Official5th District U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks:

House Armed Services Committee: Subcommittee on Strategic Forces and Subcommittee on Readiness

“The military side of Redstone Arsenal employs roughly 30,000 Tennessee Valley residents. In light of the dramatic cut in Republicans on the Armed Services Committee (as we moved from majority to minority status), I am pleased my Republican colleagues chose me to continue serving on Armed Services, where my growing seniority empowers me to better protect America’s national security and promote Redstone Arsenal’s role in providing that security,” said Brooks.

“The Tennessee Valley is experiencing rapid economic growth in large part because of Redstone Arsenal’s reputation as a center of excellence. Quite frankly, we often do what no one else in the world can do. Recognizing this, I again successfully competed for a position on Armed Service, which annually produces the National Defense Authorization Act, the primary mechanism whereby Congress authorizes Department of Defense programs.”

The Strategic Forces Subcommittee oversees America’s nuclear weapons, ballistic missile defense, national security space programs, and Department of Energy national security programs. The subcommittee seeks to ensure that America’s nuclear capability and defenses are an overwhelming deterrent to attack by any potential foe.

The Readiness Subcommittee is responsible for the single largest account within the Department of Defense budget. It oversees military readiness, training, logistics and maintenance issues and programs, military construction, installations and family housing issues, and the BRAC process. It also oversees civilian personnel, energy security, and environmental issues that affect the Defense Department. The Readiness Subcommittee seeks to ensure America’s military has the training, materials, and equipment needed to accomplish their missions with minimal loss of life.

“I am pleased to again serve on the Strategic Forces Subcommittee and add Readiness as a new subcommittee assignment in the 116th Congress,” said Brooks. “The Strategic Forces Subcommittee has oversight and authorization responsibility for much of Redstone Arsenal’s vital missile defense work. I look forward to addressing readiness issues created by sequestration and other budget cuts on the Readiness Subcommittee. We must ensure that America’s military is the most lethal fighting force on Earth.”

House Science, Space, and Technology Committee: Brooks’ seniority improves to #2 out of 15 Republican members on the committee. Subcommittee assignments will be announced in the coming weeks.

“I am pleased to be chosen to continue on the influential Science, Space, and Technology Committee despite cuts to Republican membership because of the move from majority to minority status. I look forward to working with my fellow committee members to advance America’s preeminence in space and protect and promote the Marshall Space Flight Center’s role in scientific advancements,” said Brooks.

“According to NASA, Marshall Space Flight Center is directly or indirectly responsible for more than 24,500 Tennessee Valley jobs that contribute roughly $82 million in state and local taxes.[1] Some of the most committed engineers, scientists, and technology professionals in the nation reside in the Tennessee Valley and play an essential role in the advancement of space exploration and discovery. I am proud to again serve on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee where I can support their outstanding work.”

Gary Palmer Official6th District U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer:

House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee: Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, and the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment.

The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee serves as the authorization committee for a number of areas including aviation, federal highways and bridges, mass transit, clean water and waste management, and disaster relief. Agencies under the Committee’s jurisdiction includes the Department of Transportation, U.S. Coast Guard, and Environmental Protection Agency.

“I’m honored to serve on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and look forward to working with my colleagues, especially Ranking Member Sam Graves, to address our nation’s crumbling infrastructure problems. Infrastructure is a bipartisan and national priority, and I hope that we can address a number of pressing issues like completing construction of the Northern Beltline,” Palmer said.

“Serving on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will allow me to pick up right where I left off during the last Congress. As part of my work as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Intergovernmental Affairs, I started meeting with state and local government officials to discuss high-priority issues that are affected by onerous federal regulations. These meetings included individuals from the Alabama Department of Transportation, county engineers, elected officials, and representatives of the regional planning commissions. I believe that we can develop ways to streamline funding for infrastructure improvements and deal with regulations and permitting issues from the EPA and other agencies that drive up costs.”

Terri Sewell Official7th District U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell:

House Ways and Means Committee: Vice-Chair; Subcommittee on Health, the Subcommittee on Trade and the Subcommittee on Worker and Family Support.

“I am honored to have been selected as the Vice Chair of the influential Ways and Means Committee,” Sewell said. “The subcommittees that I will serve on this Congress will give me the opportunity to address the issues of health care, trade, labor and family support that affect the everyday lives of those living in Alabama’s 7th Congressional District.

She added, “Since joining the Ways and Means Committee in 2017, I have fought to make health care more accessible and affordable, improve critical support programs for workers and families and ensure that our U.S. trade policies remain competitive and fair to American workers. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to build upon these successes and help improve the lives of every American.”
