The final numbers are in and officials say the city of Dothan has experienced a 10.7 percent increase in sales tax revenue growth in the 2019 fiscal year.

Overall, the city collected $74.1 million from October 2018 through September 2019— an increase of almost $7.2 million more than the previous fiscal year. The figures beat officials’ budget projections by $11.9 million.

Strong sales in August bolstered remittances as business submitted more than $6 million in sales tax revenue in September. The tally represented an 11.1 percent increase over the same time frame in the 2018 fiscal year

The Dothan Eagle reports Hurricane Michael’s impact played a role in the overall gains. The Category 5 storm heavily damaged several communities in adjacent counties, causing multiple hotel stays and increased shopping in Dothan.
