Former Senator and US Attorney General Jeff Sessions has been endorsed by eight Sheriffs of Alabama counties as he seeks to regain the seat he occupied from 1997 until 2017 when Donald Trump appointed him Attorney General of the United States.

As reported on Yellowhammer News, Sheriff Kevin Turner of Madison County is one of the Sheriffs to make an endorsement, saying, “law enforcement officers trust Jeff Sessions because we know that he has our back.”

“Let me tell you. There is not one person across this state that can ever say Jeff Sessions is not there for law enforcement. What he does for sheriff’s offices across this state, what he does for the police departments, is absolutely what we need in Washington,” Turner added.

Shelby County Sheriff John Samaniego, also one of the Sheriffs endorsing Sessions, said according to a report by AL.com, “There is no question in my mind that he is the best qualified person for the job.”

The Alabama Sheriffs endorsing Sessions are:

Kevin Turner of Madison County;
John Samaniego of Shelby County;
Jonathon W. Horton of Etowah County;
Don Valenza of Houston County;
Shannon Oliver of Franklin County;
Ray Norris of Clarke County;
Billy Murray of St. Clair County;
Heath Taylor of Russell County and president of the Alabama Sheriffs Association.

Sessions even received endorsements from out of state police groups in a letter from the New York City Sergeants Benevolent Association that was signed by several other police groups, stating, “as you prepare to once again enter the arena and fight for the people of Alabama and all Americans, know that we are honored to have your back.”

Sessions faces several candidates who have qualified for the race: former Auburn head football coach Tommy Tuberville, Congressman Bradley Byrne, former AL Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, state representative Arnold Mooney, Stanley Adair, and Ruth Page Nelson.
