An Arkansas-based company is getting more than $500,000 annually in federal funds to expand high-speed internet service in rural Alabama.
The company will receive $511,000 in what’s described as annual, continuing support.
Additional service is expected in nine counties in central Alabama.
Officials say the money comes from a program that provides support to extend service into areas that wouldn’t otherwise have high-speed Internet.
Nationwide, Windstream has accepted nearly $175 million in federal funds to expand high-speed service.
