The fate of Gov. Robert Bentley‘s prison construction bill will be decided Wednesday, the final day of the 2016 legislative session.
The $800 million proposal to replace most of the state’s existing prisons with four new facilities — three new prisons for men, housing up to 4,000 inmates each, and one new prison for women — heads to a conference committee Wednesday morning where lawmakers will try to reconcile differences in the House and Senate bills.
The committee is expected to exit with a compromise that can pass both chambers before the end of the day.
