Five-term U.S. Senator, Republican Richard Shelby is making his rounds across the Yellowhammer State during a state work period on his annual statewide tour of Alabama’s 67 counties. Shelby’s made similar tours every year since first being elected to the U.S. Senate in 1987, but Thursday the Senator made a significant milestone in his travels — he visited Bibb County marking his 2,000th county visit to date.

“Since the people of Alabama elected me to serve in the United States Senate, I have made it one of my top priorities to visit all 67 counties in Alabama every year,” said Sen. Shelby in a statement. “I believe that in order to be an effective leader you must have frequent interaction and discussion with those you represent.

“These face-to-face meetings back home serve as one of the best ways for me to learn about the issues that Alabamians care about and are impacted by the most.  I am proud to hit this milestone today, and I look forward to many more opportunities to listen to my constituents all across the great state of Alabama.”
