Birmingham voters get plenty of choice with dozen mayoral candidates

Birmingham voters will have plenty of candidates to choose from when the head to the polls this August to vote for mayor.

Qualifying to run for the office ended at 5 p.m. Friday and a whopping 12 candidates have qualified for the Aug. 22 ballot.

To qualify, candidates had to be at least 25 years old, registered to vote and live in the city of Birmingham. They also had to pay a $300 qualifying fee.

If necessary, runoff elections will be held October 4. The next mayor of Birmingham is scheduled began their term of office on October 24.
