On Thursday, more than 150 guests gathered on the grounds of the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce as the Fort Dale Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution hosted a World War I (WWI) Memorial to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the War and dedicate a memorial to the 19 Butler County, Ala. servicemen who were killed in action on the battlefields of France.
The event, which was held on the grounds of the historic train depot unveiled the WWI memorial, which now hangs memorial hangs at the area chamber of commerce.
Nimrod Frazer, author, historian and philanthropist, served as the event’s guest speaker. His father, William J. Frazer, was a Greenville native and Purple Heart recipient, who departed for France from Montgomery’s Union Station along with almost 4,000 other Alabamians and he wrote a book honoring his father and the other Alabamians who served in the war.
