A new Congress means new office spaces for some members of the Alabama delegation.

Every two years, there’s a Congressional office lottery that allows newly elected Members to pick where they’ll spend the next two years in Washington, D.C. It also allows sitting members the opportunity to move to a new location.

Some members choose to stay put. Whether they landed in the perfect office space a previous lottery, or they just just don’t want to deal with the hassle of moving — they don’t even both participating in the lottery. Meanwhile others take the opportunity see if they can move up — to a prime spot in the Rayburn House Office Building (HOB) closest to all the committee action and the underground train to the Senate; or to Cannon HOB situated closest to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and the Republican National Committee (RNC) for those interested in fundraising and planning election strategies during their downtime; or to Longworth HOB, which sits between Rayburn and Cannon and to many the best of both worlds, as well as the cafeteria. Others are forced to participate in the lottery, as their current office will be part of the ongoing House renovations in the new Congress.

Out of Alabama’s seven members in the House, four of them are trading spaces ahead of the 116th Congress that begins in January. Here’s a look at who’s going where:

  • Rep. Bradley Byrne (AL-01): Not moving, staying in 119 Cannon HOB
  • Rep. Martha Roby (AL-02): 442 Cannon HOB → 504 Cannon HOB
  • Rep. Mike Rogers (AL-03): Not moving, staying in 2184 Rayburn HOB
  • Rep. Robert Aderholt (AL-04): 235 Cannon HOB →1203 Longworth HOB
  • Rep. Mo Brooks (AL-05): 2400 Rayburn HOB → 2246 Rayburn HOB
  • Rep. Gary Palmer (AL-06): 330 Cannon HOB → 207 in the Cannon HOB
  • Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07): Not moving, staying in 2201 Rayburn HOB
