The Alabama League of Municipalities has announced three new personnel changes. According to their website, “the Alabama League of Municipalities is a nonpartisan membership association of nearly 450 incorporated cities and towns. Since 1935, the League has worked to strengthen municipal government through advocacy, training and the advancement of effective local leadership.”

Kayla Bass will become the League’s new Director of External Affairs. According to the League, she will “…work to promote our legislative positions through the development and implementation of specific advocacy strategies and provides lobbying support when the Legislature is in session.” Bass is a graduate of Faulkner University. They highlighted her success in a September 2019 alumni newsletter. Her promotion to this position comes after being with the League for three years as a public affairs associate.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Bass has a background in Communications. She previously worked as the Communications Director for VOICES for Alabama’s Children, as Press Secretary to Secretary of State John Merrill. Before that Bass worked in the Press Office of Governor Robert Bentley

In the announcement, the League announced two new hires, Bryan Douglas Parker and Baker Allen

Parker will join the League as their Director of Governmental Affairs. According to the League’s announcement, Parker “…will be responsible for working with state and federal officials on behalf of the state’s municipalities.” Parker previously worked for PowerSouth Energy as their Economic Development Representative for nearly eight years and as a Field Representative for former Congressman Jo Bonner, according to his LinkedIn profile

Allen joins the League after having served for more than five years in the Governor’s office as the Economic Policy Advisor. The League says Allen “…will be responsible for developing policies and data that empower our cities and towns to flourish.” According to Allen’s LinkedIn profile, he has worked for both the Kay Ivey and Bentley administrations and previously worked as the Montgomery Field Office Manager for Robert Bentley for Governor.

These changes come after the January 16, 2020 meeting where Deputy Director Greg Cochran was promoted to Executive Director following the retirement of Ken Smith whose retirement was effective today.
