Personnel Update: George Talbot to Volkert Engineering

George Talbot, the Director of Communications and External Affairs for the City of Mobile, is leaving Mayor Sandy Stimpson‘s administration to join Volkert Engineering as their new Director of Governmental Affairs. Talbot made the announcement via Twitter, where he indicated his final day with the City of Mobile will be August 14th.

“Working with Mayor Stimpson and our team at City Hall has been the experience of a lifetime,” Talbot said in a LinkedIn post. Talbot has worked for the City of Mobile since 2013. 

Stimpson said of Talbot’s years of service, “I want to thank George for his dedication and service to the citizens of Mobile. His integrity, dependability and work ethic have been a great resource to my Administration since we took office.”

Prior to his work in municipal government, Talbot worked for the Alabama Media Group and the Mobile Press-Register beginning in 2000, according to his LinkedIn page. He holds a B.A. in English from Rhodes College. 

Volkert Engineering has long been influential in Alabama politics. The company’s former Chairman of the Board, Perry Hand, was also the Chairman of the Business Council of Alabama. According to the company’s website, Volkert is consistently ranked in the top 100 design firms in the nation. 

Anitra Henderson, Senior Director of Community Affairs for the City of Mobile, will serve as interim Director of Communications and External Affairs, according to a tweet from Mayor Stimpson.
