Jim Zeigler: Don’t give Nancy Pelosi an extra vote and extra funds

The deadline for YOU to fill out your census form is next Wednesday, Sept. 30. If you and hundreds of thousands of Alabama residents don’t get on the stick and get this done this week, it will give Nancy Pelosi an additional vote in congress – and give the Left Coast funds that should go to Alabama.

It’s simple. Alabama is on the cusp of losing a seat in congress because of the lack of growth in our population. That seat would not just disappear. It would instead go to a growing state, such as Oregon.

Alabama would lose an electoral vote in presidential elections. That vote would not disappear. It would go left.

Alabama would lose federal funds. Those funds would not go back to the taxpaying public. They would be spent anyway in a growing state.

Distrust of government. Alabama folk tell me that many who have not filled out their census forms are like me in that they do not trust the federal government. They do not want to support the federal government. They do not want to entrust their personal information to the feds.

I agree with those concerns, but I completed my census anyway. You see, declining to be counted in the census will not hurt or restrict the federal government. Not participating will only hurt Alabama – and any Alabama folk who depend on federal funds such as veterans’ benefits.

One mistake in the promotion of census participation has been to use only established officials to urge people to complete the census. Since the non-participants are heavily those who do dislike government, it does no good to use establishment officials as spokespersons. It may even be counterproductive.

Getting the message to those who do not like government should not be done through Gov. Kay Ivey, who supported a gas tax increase and failed toll bridge; nor through leaders of the legislature who passed the gas tax increase.

Smarter choices to reach the non-participants would be critics of government, such as:

Jim Zeigler, State Auditor, who led the ethics complaint against Gov. Robert Bentley and blocked the toll bridge on I-10. (This is a list in which I just have to be included.  I self-nominate.)

-Congressman Mo Brooks, outspoken critic of the federal government.

Kayla Moore, head of the Foundation for Moral Law.

-Rev. John Killian, former President of Alabama Baptist Convention and conservative Christian spokesman.

-Rick and Bubba, radio show hosts.

-Conservative talk show hosts Dale Jackson, Scott Beason, Matt Murphy, Dan Morris, Luther Upton, Blaine Wilson, Larry McKee, Sean Sullivan, Jeff Poor, Uncle Henry, and Apryl Marie Fogel

-Former Auburn Coach Tommy Tuberville, who is running a campaign for U.S. Senate that is very anti-federal government and pro-people.

Becky Gerritson and Eunie Smith of Eagle Forum.

-State School Board Vice-Chair Jackie Zeigler. She was state chair of the vote no campaign on Amendment One on March 3. It would have taken away your right to vote for state school board and made them all appointed by the governor. It was defeated with a staggering 75% no.

-Dr. Lou Campomenosi of the Common Sense Campaign.

Eddie Fulmer of second amendment group, BamaCarry.

Less than a week to go, and it will almost take a miracle to keep Alabama from being a relative loser for the decade.

You can help by completing the census yourself and encouraging others to do so. If they tell you they do not want to help the government or to cooperate, explain the situation to them. By not participating, they are helping Speaker Pelosi with an extra vote and extra funds.

It takes only ten minutes or less to complete your census form. Deadline is this Wednesday, Sept. 30. You can do it online at: https://2020census.gov/en.html  or call 1-800-923-8282
