The mayor of Lipscomb has been arrested after scuffling with the city’s police chief.

Al.com reports that Mayor Lance McDade was arrested Friday after the tussle with Police Chief Steve Carey at City Hall. Charges had not been filed against the mayor by Friday afternoon.

When arrested, McDade had a letter explaining that all city employees, expect dispatch workers, would be placed on administrative leave. McDade was being held at the city’s jail.

A phone listing for McDade could not be found Saturday.

City Clerk Connie Madsen said the mayor pro tem, Brenda Renz, is now in charge.

Two years ago, McDade temporarily shut down the city police department and laid off other city employees due to what he said were budget problems.
