Jerry Carl and Barry Moore support failed impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas

On Tuesday night, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to thwart a motion by Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) to impeach embattled Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Eight Republicans joined House Democrats to stop the impeachment effort and instead refer the motion to the Homeland Security Committee for their consideration. The eight Republicans were Representatives Ken Buck (R-Colorado), Darrell Issa (R-California), Tom McClintock (R-California), Patrick McHenry (R-North Carolina), John Duarte (R-California), Virginia Foxx (R-North Carolina), Cliff Bentz (R-Oregan), and Mike Turner (R-Ohio). All six of Alabama’s Republican Congressmen voted with Rep. Greene to proceed with impeaching Mayokas. Congressman Jerry Carl (R-AL01) wrote on X, “Tonight, the House voted on a motion to refer this impeachment resolution to the Homeland Security Committee. This motion passed, so we didn’t vote to impeach him. I voted against this motion because the House needs to take immediate action to impeach Secretary Mayorkas.” Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) also voted against killing the resolution to begin impeachment proceedings against Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas. Rep. Moore is also a co-sponsor of this resolution. Moore was one of the first Members of Congress to call for the impeachment of Mayorkas back in May. “Under Mayorkas’ watch, there have been 8 million illegal border encounters, 52,900 pounds of fentanyl seized at the border, more than 280 people on terrorist watchlists caught while attempting to cross the border, and 1.8 million known “got aways” who have evaded U.S. authorities,” said Moore. “In the private sector, if you don’t do your job, you get fired. Mayorkas’ failure to do his job is putting Americans in grave danger every day, and it’s past time for him to be impeached.” Carl is also a co-sponsor of Rep. Greene’s resolution. “Our southern border is wide open, and we have an unprecedented illegal immigration crisis at our southern border because Secretary Mayorkas has failed to do his job. That’s why I proudly co-sponsored @RepMTG’s resolution to impeach him.” Carl said on X. Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC.us) announced afterward that it is dropping the national organization’s long-standing endorsement and support for Rep. Tom McClintock after McClintock joined seven other Republicans in voting with Democrats to protect Mayorkas from impeachment. “Our decade-long support for Rep. McClintock ends today, and we call on American patriots, conservatives, Republicans, and invasion opponents to mount GOP Primary challengers to any of these eight sellouts still on the ballot in 2024,” said William Gheen of ALIPAC. “These Republicans supporting Democrat efforts to flood and overwhelm U.S. elections with illegal alien Democrat voters should be run out of office! Shame on them for depriving all Americans of a true choice against illegal globalist policies.” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said that she will continue her efforts to hold the Biden Administration accountable for its thwarting of the nation’s immigration laws and the crisis on the southern border. “I will not stop fighting to hold the Biden administration accountable for their open border policies that are killing Americans every day,” Congresswoman Greene said on X. “It’s time for Republicans to grow a spine and join me in impeaching Mayorkas and others who are destroying our country.” An impeachment by the House had it occurred would likely have been rejected by the Democratic-controlled U.S. Senate if the Senate even took the matter up. Barry Moore votes for resolution condemning efforts to defund the police

On Thursday, Congressman Barry Moore voted in support of H.Con.Res.40, a concurrent resolution expressing support for law enforcement officers and condemning efforts to defund or dismantle local law enforcement agencies. The concurrent resolution was introduced by Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colorado) and Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Arizona). “Every day, thousands of men and women in blue kiss their families goodbye, knowing it could be the last time,” said Moore. “This week, I have heard the stories of several law enforcement officers who laid down their lives to protect others. These officers deserve to know we stand with them and condemn any effort to defund or dismantle police forces. I will always Back the Blue.” Rep. Buck introduced the resolution supporting local law enforcement and condemning efforts to defund the police: “Ever since the George Floyd riots of 2020, our law enforcement officers have been mercilessly attacked for simply doing their jobs and upholding the rule of law,” Buck said. “Leftist activists and progressive politicians have shamefully called for the defunding and dismantling of local police departments across the country.” “We must ‘back the blue’ now more than ever. Crime is surging across our cities in virtually every major statistic,” said Rep. Biggs. “These heroes are the only ones putting themselves in harm’s way to uphold our rule of law and ensure public safety. These courageous men and women volunteer to keep our communities safer every day. At the very least, they deserve our gratitude and respect. It’s unconscionable to see pro-crime Democrats attempt to restrict, and in many cases, abolish our law enforcement agencies. That’s something you see in authoritarian regimes—not in the United States—and always results in communities being less safe. I cannot overstate my appreciation for our nation’s law enforcement, and will continue to exercise every tool I have to ‘back the blue.” “This resolution is a long-overdue recognition of the men and women in blue who selflessly put themselves in harm’s way and keep our communities safe,” said Buck. The resolution was passed to coincide with the annual observance of National Police Week. On Friday, Rep. Moore voted in support of H.R. 2494, the POLICE Act. This legislation is sponsored by Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) and would make assaulting a law enforcement officer a deportable offense. “There have been five million illegal encounters at our southern border and thousands of pounds of deadly fentanyl flowing across since Biden became President, so there’s no doubt that law enforcement officers all over the country are being forced to deal with the ramifications of our open southern border,” said Moore. “The POLICE Act holds migrants accountable for violent actions and gives our courageous officers the protection they deserve.” “As the border crisis rages on unchecked and assaults against law enforcement officers continue to rise, this legislation sends a crystal clear message that any non-citizen who commits acts of violence against police should be subject to deportation,” said Rep. Garbarino. “The POLICE Act codifies what under current law remains legally ambiguous by providing clear guidelines for what qualifies a migrant for removal under these circumstances. It is about improving officer safety and making it easier to remove migrants who have demonstrated flagrant criminal violence while on U.S. soil. I applaud my colleagues in the House for approving this common-sense measure, and I urge the Senate to take up the POLICE Act without delay to show our men and women in law enforcement that we have their backs as they continue to battle the criminal element currently taking advantage of our unsecured southern border.” The measures now go on to the Democratic-controlled U.S. Senate for their consideration. Barry Moore is in his second term representing Alabama’s Second Congressional District. To connect with the author of this story or to comment, email brandonmreporter@gmail.com.

Mike Rogers believes public deserves to know true origins of COVID-19

Congressman Mike Rogers believes the public has a right to know where the COVID-19 virus originated. This comment was in response to revelations that the U.S. Department of Energy now accepts as likely the theory that the COVID-19 global pandemic probably originated in a lab in China rather than as something that naturally occurred. That theory was almost as old as the virus itself but was denounced by the media and many government agencies as a “fringe” conspiracy theory. Increasingly though, a growing number of official voices acknowledge that they now accept the theory as likely factual. Following the revelation that the Energy Department accepts that the global pandemic was likely the result of some sort of an escape from a laboratory, many Republicans are demanding answers. “Republicans were written off as conspiracy theorists for claiming that COVID-19 originated from the Wuhan lab,” Rep. Rogers told Alabama Today via email. “Now that the Department of Energy has concluded that a lab leak is indeed the likely origin of COVID-19, the Biden White House remains curiously silent. The public deserves to know the origins of this disease, and any effort by the Biden administration to mislead the public on that front is shameful.” U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton had suggested that the disease resulted from a lab leak as early as Feb. 2020. He was slammed for it by the New York Times and the mainstream media. Now Cotton wants answers. “China’s lab leak, being proven right doesn’t matter,” said Sen. Cotton on Twitter. “What matters is holding the Chinese Communist Party accountable so this doesn’t happen again.” “The elites and academics owe everyone who had legitimate questions and concerns about the origins of COVID an apology,” Rep Ken Buck said on Twitter. “The American people deserve to see all the information concerning the Chinese lab leak and the origins of COVID. This won’t be forgotten.” The FBI also reportedly has come to the same conclusion – that the COVID-19 global pandemic had nothing to do with a natural disease outbreak from an infected animal at a meat market in Wuhan – the story the Chinese initially reported – but rather that the virus escaped from a Chinese lab there. The Wall Street Journal reported last week that the Energy Department had joined the FBI’s stance on the pandemic. The Wall Street Journal report cites individuals who have seen a classified intelligence report recently provided to the White House and key members of Congress. The National Intelligence Council and four other agencies assess at “low confidence” that the COVID-19 pandemic originated due to natural transmission from an infected animal. In contrast, the CIA and another unnamed agency are undecided. The updated report maintains there is a consensus between all the intelligence agencies that the pandemic was not the result of a Chinese bioweapons program. The U.S. intelligence agency consensus is that the COVID-19 pandemic likely resulted from an accidental lab leak in Wuhan. “It was obvious from the beginning that this was the case.,” Dr. Stewart Tankersley told Alabama Today. “But Fauci and all his sycophants continue to maim and kill without apologizing. But it’s actually one of the many lies that they have supported and propagated the past 3 years.” Tankersley has been a skeptic of how the COVID-19 virus has been handled by the World Health Organization and federal and state healthcare authorities. “Repentance is the first step to getting through this,” Tankersley added. The Energy Department oversees a network of U.S. national laboratories, some of which conduct advanced biological research, so has the research brainpower to reach that conclusion. Reportedly both the FBI and the Energy Department arrived at the same conclusion independently of each other. Wuhan is the center of China’s extensive coronavirus research. COVID-19 is a condition first identified in late 2019 in China. The illness, which can frequently be deadly, is caused by a coronavirus infection. Coronaviruses are extremely common throughout nature, but the virus that caused the outbreak, SARS-CoV-2, was new to science. The coronavirus has spread globally and is now endemic. To this point, 6,798,868 people have died in the global pandemic, including 1,145,293 Americans. 20,852 Alabamians have died. Rogers is the Chairman of the powerful House Armed Service Committee. He is in his eleventh term representing Alabama’s Third Congressional District. To connect with the author of this story or to comment, email  brandonmreporter@gmail.com.

Robert Aderholt supports protecting pharmacists’ First Amendment rights regarding prescriptions for elective abortions

Congressman Robert Aderholt announced that he has become a co-sponsor of a bill to protect the First Amendment rights of pharmacists when choosing whether or not to fill prescriptions for elective abortions. The Pharmacist Conscience Protection Act H.R. 8820 was introduced by Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-Georgia), Diana Hashbarger (R-Tennessee), and Blake Moore (R-Utah). Reps. Carter and Harshbarger are both pharmacists. It is co-sponsored by 26 House Republicans. The legislation comes after the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued guidance warning pharmacists that they could be in violation of federal civil rights laws if they do not fill such prescriptions. “Pharmacists should not be forced to surrender their First Amendment rights of religious freedom because of radical policies from the Biden Administration,” said Congressman Aderholt. “It’s unfortunate that we need conscience protections like these, but it’s the only way to keep the overbearing Biden Administration from forcing private citizens to violate strongly held convictions.” “Your first amendment rights don’t go away when you put on a white coat,” said Rep. Carter. “This legislation will ensure that pharmacists are able to make the medical decisions that are best for the health of the mother, the life of the child, and the integrity of their practice without threats from non-medically trained bureaucrats. Medical decisions should be made between doctors, pharmacists, and patients – not the federal government.” “I will not stand by and let the Biden administration use an extremist and unlawful agenda of taxpayer-funded abortions through birth to persecute pharmacists who have religious, moral, or conscience objections to the intentional killing of unborn children through abortion,” stated Rep. Harshbarger. “As a licensed pharmacist for more than 30 years, I have always followed the precept of first doing no harm. I will always stand up for the lives of unborn children and will always defend health practitioners who believe the same. Pharmacists and other health professionals should never be punished for their moral beliefs in protecting life, or be threatened or forced to facilitate abortions against such beliefs. I call on the Biden administration to immediately withdraw this outrageous assault on pharmacists’ conscience rights, and to stop treating the Constitution like its own political chew-toy!” “Conscience protections prevent discrimination and ensure Americans in the healthcare sector are not forced to violate their beliefs,” said Rep. Moore. “As the Biden Administration takes steps to undermine the conscience rights of pharmacists, I am proud to join Congressman Buddy Carter and Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger in introducing the Pharmacist Conscience Protection Act which would ensure pharmacists can refuse to provide abortion drugs without repercussion. Pharmacists, along with other medical and healthcare workers, should never be coerced into participating in abortions, and this bill is an important step in supporting medical professionals who have deep convictions about practicing life-affirming medicine.” The text reads in part, “In General.—Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Federal Government, and any person or entity that receives Federal grants, contracts, or financial assistance, including any State or local government, may not penalize, treat adversely, retaliate against, or otherwise discriminate against a specified health care provider, or take any action that has such effect, on the basis that the specified health care provider does not or declines to store or fill a prescription, or make a referral, for a drug that is approved by the Food and Drug Administration to cause an abortion or that the specified health care provider in good faith believes may be used to cause an abortion.” Other co-sponsors are Reps. Chris Smith (R-NJ), Tracey Mann (R-KS), Doug Lamborn (R-CO), David McKinley (R-WV), Ken Buck (R-CO), Lance Gooden (R-TX), Jake Ellzey (R-TX), Kat Cammack (R-FL), Mary Miller (R-IL), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Bill Posey (R-FL), Greg Steube (R-FL), Troy Balderson (R-OH), Brian Babin (R-TX), Dan Webster (R-FL), Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Randy Weber (R-TX), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), Brad Wenstrup (R-OH), Don Bacon (R-NE), Robert E. Latta (R-OH), and Andrew Clyde (R-GA). Aderholt is in his thirteenth term representing Alabama’s Fourth Congressional District. Mo Brooks joins House colleagues in leading effort to defund sanctuary cities

immigration

In an effort led by Alabama 5th District U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks, Arizona 4th District U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar, Iowa 4th District U.S. Rep. Steve King and Colorado 4th District U.S. Rep. Ken Buck —  a group of House Republicans are urging Congressional appropriators to defund “sanctuary cities” that prevent law enforcement officials from faithfully executing America’s immigration laws: In a letter sent Tuesday, the four sponsors and 35 additional co-sponsors submitted appropriations language requesting the House Appropriations Committee prevent funds from going to “sanctuary cities.” “Sanctuary cities” are municipalities that have limited their cooperation with federal officials regarding undocumented immigrants, in order to help illegal immigrants avoid deportation. Currently, there are around 340 sanctuary jurisdictions across the U.S.  actively obstructing federal law enforcement protecting illegal immigrants in sanctuary cities, according to a recent study by the Center for Immigration Studies. The letter follows an executive order President Donald Trump issued on his fifth day in office, whereby allowing Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly to decide whether sanctuary cities would be eligible for federal grants. “Congress has an opportunity to work with the Trump Administration and enforce our nation’s immigration laws with respect to sanctuary cities,” said Congressman Mo Brooks. “Cities and localities who have refused to comply with federal immigration laws and knowingly shield dangerous felons from removal by ICE present a clear danger to our Republic. According to an ICE report from March of 2017, there are an estimated 300 cities and counties obstructing federal immigration agents from doing their jobs to deport dangerous criminals, thereby intentionally endangering Americans.” Rep. Gosar points to the U.S. Constitution as the reason he and his colleagues are taking action. “The concept of ‘sanctuary city’ policies is in direct opposition to the Rule of Law and our Constitution. Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4, gives Congress clear jurisdiction on immigration matters,” stated Gosar. “I’m pleased to see President Trump and Attorney General Sessions lead on this issue, but the House must also act by using the power of the purse. It’s long past time for Congress to crack down and defund sanctuary city policies that are proven to be deadly and put the security of our communities at risk.” The House has voted and passed language that prohibits federal funds from going to sanctuary cities five different times in recent years. “Sanctuary cities force the federal government to spend more money on immigration enforcement,” added Rep. Buck. “We must assert federal authority on federal issues and cut off funding for cities that violate the rule of law, which is what this appropriations request does.”  The full text of the appropriations language request can be found HERE. The list of 35 House members who cosponsored this language request include Representatives Abraham, Arrington, Babin, Barletta, Brady, Brat, Mo Brooks, Buck, Cramer, DeSantis, Duncan, Farenthold, Franks, Gosar, Grothman, Hensarling, Hice, Hunter, Sam Johnson, Jones, Kelly, Steve King, Lamborn, Marino, McCaul, McClintock, Meadows, Olson, Ratcliffe, Rooney, Rouzer, Schweikert, Wagner, Webster and Yoho.
