Earlier this month, Governor Kay Ivey called for a second special session of the Alabama Legislature to take up redistricting legislation, and on Monday Ivey also added pandemic-related healthcare services to the session’s agenda.

Ivey now wants lawmakers to address “appropriations for pandemic-related healthcare service” in the special session.

“The Legislature may [also]consider legislation to make appropriations from the American Rescue Plan Act — Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Fund in an amount not to exceed $80 million to support the delivery of healthcare and related services to the citizens of Alabama related to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Ivey said in an official proclamation Monday.

The special session will also tackle redistricting, which is required by federal law every 10 years following the US Census. It will allow for reapportionment “of the State into districts for electing members of the Alabama House of Representatives, Alabama Senate, the United States of Representatives and the State Board of Education.”

The special session will begin Oct. 28 at 4:00 p.m.
