Orange Beach police arrested the mayor of Tallassee on Saturday, on a charge of domestic violence, AL.com reported.
John Randal Hammock, 47, is being held without bond in the Baldwin County Jail. He was booked at 10:54 a.m. He has been charged with domestic violence – strangulation.
The call came around 10 p.m. on Saturday on Perdido Beach Boulevard. Police found probable cause to believe he “committed an act of felony domestic violence.”

Hammock is currently in his second term as mayor of Tallassee. He is also is running for a seat on the Public Service Commission.
Yellowhammer News reported that a Saturday evening Facebook post published from Hammock’s official campaign page nearly three hours prior to his arrest stated that Hammock was in South Alabama campaigning. The post has since been removed.

In August 2020, Hammock was charged with harassment in a road rage incident, according to WRBL.
Last December, Hammock has filed a lawsuit against the city and the City Council of Tallassee over his termination as superintendent of the city’s utility system reported WSFA. He is claiming wrongful termination plus libel and slander arguing that his termination on October 12 violated city policies and his 14th Amendment rights to due process.
Hammock wrote an op-ed for the Elmore Autauga News in October, following his termination. Hammock stated, “Our City Council must be better. They must start putting the needs of our citizens above their own personal agendas, and self interest. The people of Tallassee deserve better. I’ve fought hard as Mayor to stand up for our city. They may think I work for them, but I don’t; I work for the people of Tallassee.”
