Concerns from lawmakers continue after news that a man has been allowed in girls dorms at Space Camp

As first reported by 1819 News, a male camp counselor at Huntsville’s U.S. Space and Rocket Center Space Camp has been allowed access to the dorm, also called the “Habitat,” reserved for young female attendees. The issue has gained national attention following a public post by Clay Yarbrough a father whose daughter was scheduled to attend camp. Yarbrough claimed to have spoken directly with the VP/Director of Space camp, who confirmed that a man who, according to social media, presents and identifies as a woman was “a hall monitor in the girls dorms and at times could be allowed to be alone in the halls at night.”

Lawmakers are lining up to express their concern that the safety and well-being of young girls and women is being sacrificed in the name of what is commonly called “Woke policies.”

Senator Chris Elliott pushed back on the defense of the counselor during an appearance on Huntsville’s Yaffee radio program, as reported by Yellow Hammer news, saying, “You know, I don’t care what people do in their private time,” he explained. “But but when you’re, you know, when you’re teaching youth, you’re interacting with youth, when you’re using public dollars, you’re responsible to the people of the state of Alabama, and the legislature is going to make sure that you’re following some social norms and you’re not out there peddling whatever your woke agenda is, that’s just not something that we’re going to support in Alabama.”

Congressman Dale Strong took a strong stance as the news broke posting on social media, “I call on the Center to immediately remove this individual and open a safety review to consider the potential harm and damages they have inadvertently caused children,” Strong said.
