Paul DeMarco: Kay Ivey ensures Alabama assist Hurricane recovery efforts in Appalachia

The terrible storms that tore through the Southeast last week have left devastating results in parts of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and North Carolina.

The loss of life, injuries, and property damages make hurricane Helene one of the worst in the Nation’s history.

Alabama has had its fair share of terrible storms in its history. Like Helene the hurricane that struck, on September 12, 1979, Hurricane Frederick was a category 4 hurricane that hit Alabama hard and was one of the the most devastating storms to hit our state that caused damage to Alabama’s coast that took years to repair. Alabama leaders have done their part to ensure our state is prepared for the next hurricane, including constructing new infrastructure along Alabama’s Gulf communities and implementing evacuation routes. Alabama also has shown it is effective in handling these natural disasters. Governor Kay Ivey has deployed an Alabama National Guard rescue team to North Carolina.

The Alabama Emergency Management Agency is also doing its part to assist in recovery efforts for the unprecedented flooding.  Also, Alabama cities have sent their own first responders to assist those who were the most affected by the ravages of this storm. Alabama is doing its part to help those in Appalachia trying to recover from the tragic effects of Hurricane Helene.
