Katie Britt backs bipartisan legislation to solidify American sanctions on Iran

U.S. Senator Katie Britt recently joined Presidential candidate U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-South Carolina) and Senators Maggie Hassan (D-New Hampshire), Bill Hagerty (R-Tennessee), and Jacky Rosen (D-Nevada) in cosponsoring the Solidify Iran Sanctions Act (SISA) to make permanent the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996. “This legislation sends an important bipartisan message to Iran that the United States will not tolerate continued threats to American national security,” said Sen. Britt. “Peace is achieved through strength. We must stand firm against bad actors and ensure that, first and foremost, our homeland is protected against aggression. I will always fight for America’s safety, and this act is a strong step to safeguard our nation’s future.” “As evidenced by the recent Iranian-backed drone strike

Katie Britt: Hit the ground running in first 100 days, but just getting started

Today marks my 100th day in office as U.S. Senator for the great state of Alabama. To say that this responsibility is an honor of a lifetime would be an understatement. I continue to be humbled by the people of Alabama’s trust, confidence, and prayers, and as your Senator, I am working to make you proud every single day.  Alabama sent a mom to the U.S. Senate to actually get things done, and I am happy to report that I hit the ground running immediately to do just that. From the minute I was sworn into office on January 3, I took the fight for faith, family, and

Tommy Tuberville says it is no longer safe for Americans to cross Mexican border

Four Americans were kidnapped while making a cross-border visit to Mexico. Authorities rescued two of those Americans, but the other two were found executed. On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville told the Alabama press corps, “You can’t go freely across the border.” “I hate this happened to four Americans,” Sen. Tuberville said in his weekly press call. “We lost two lives, and it is sad what happened. That you can’t go freely across the border, you can’t go at any stop across the border now. It is out of control.” “Well, it just goes to show you, not just on our side, but on their side – they’re losing control

Mike Rogers leads congressional delegation to Romania and Poland to oversee Ukrainian aid

In his role as the Chairman of the powerful House Armed Services Committee, Congressman Mike Rogers led a Congressional Delegation (CODEL) to Romania and Poland to conduct oversight of the U.S. aid being sent to Ukraine.   U.S. Reps. John Garamendi (D-California), Donald Norcross (D-New Jersey), Lisa McClain (R-Michigan), Andrew Clyde (R-Georgia), Nicole Malliotakis (R-New York), Mark Alford (R-Missouri), and Chairman Rogers released a statement following their trip.    “The American people have every right to know that U.S. military equipment donated to Ukraine is being used for its intended purpose – Ukraine’s fight for national survival,” Rogers et al. said. “As a bipartisan Congressional delegation, we traveled to Poland

Robert Aderholt

Robert Aderholt named Chairman of Labor, Health and Human Services & Education Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee

Congressman Robert Aderholt was selected as the Chairman of the Labor, Health and Human Services & Education Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee on Monday. “It is an honor to have been chosen to chair this important Appropriations Subcommittee,” Rep. Aderholt said. “The Labor, Health and Human Services & Education subcommittee is responsible for the largest pool of non-defense government spending in the entire federal budget, and with that comes the commitment to renewed oversight and fiscal responsibility as we move into the Fiscal Year 23 Appropriations cycle.” “The new Republican majority in the House has made a commitment to the American people to get government spending under control,” Aderholt continued. “As chairman

Matt Gaetz, Freedom Caucus held line on McCarthy speakership over seven bills

U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Florida, was among 20 House members withholding support from new Speaker Kevin McCarthy until the California Republican would commit to bringing seven bills to a vote, as well as agreeing to other concessions. McCarthy, who was elected after 15 rounds of voting, is ranked the second-most politically left member among House Republicans, according to a govtrack.us 2020 analysis. McCarthy agreed to a list of concessions made by conservative members of the Freedom Caucus, including Gaetz, who tweeted, “this is what we’ve been fighting for.” The seven bills include one that would rescind funding for “certain balances made available to the Internal Revenue Service,” including the administration’s plan to

Senate passes defense bill rescinding COVID vaccine mandate

A bill to rescind the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for members of the U.S. military and provide nearly $858 billion for national defense passed the Senate on Thursday and now goes to President Joe Biden to be signed into law. The bill provides for about $45 billion more for defense programs than Biden requested and roughly 10% more than last year’s bill as lawmakers look to account for inflation and boost the nation’s military competitiveness with China and Russia. It includes a 4.6% pay raise for servicemembers and the Defense Department’s civilian workforce. The Senate passed the defense policy bill by a vote of 83-11. The measure also received

Steve Marshall

Steve Marshall applauds ruling upholding religious exemptions for Covid-19 vaccine mandate for Air Force service members

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall hailed a federal appeals court decision on Tuesday in a case supported by the State of Alabama that upheld the right of service members to seek religious exemptions to the U.S. Air Force’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate. “An Airman may sacrifice much serving his country,” said Marshall. “That sacrifice should not include his right to religious liberty. We have protections in place to ensure that an Airman enjoys largely the same rights to religious liberty as his fellow citizens. Those include the Free Exercise Clause and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. This appeals court ruling underscores that the religious liberty of Air Force personnel cannot be trampled by the government.”

Joe Guzzardi: Bill Clinton’s post-1994 mid-term immigration awakening

Every now and again, both during and after his two-term presidency, Bill Clinton espoused sound immigration thoughts that focused on the nation’s best interests. Most recently, Clinton, without naming Joe Biden, took direct aim at the sitting president’s open border fiasco. On a CNN podcast, and in response to a question about economic migrants who are, in the host’s description, “gaming” the asylum system, Clinton replied that “there’s a limit,” at which point open borders will cause “severe disruption.” Clinton added that the established immigration protocols, presumably a reference to the traditional agencies that assist incoming immigrants, function on the assumption that border conditions would “be more normal.” “Severe

Joe Guzzardi: Bussed migrants prove limits to inviting the world

Emotions are raw; temperatures are heated, and embattled parties are exchanging strong statements. The uproar’s cause: illegal immigrants being sent to sanctuary cities. New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. mayors Eric Adams, Lori Lightfoot, and Muriel Bowser allege that Texas, Florida, and Arizona governors – Greg Abbott, Ron DeSantis, and Doug Ducey, respectively – are playing politics with migrants’ lives, and that racism motivates their actions. After calling Abbott a racist, Lightfoot openly questioned the Texas governor’s Christian values. Bowser declared that the migrants’ arrival constituted a public emergency and asked the White House to summon the National Guard, an ignored request. Fulfilling a promise he made in April and

Alabama cites abortion ruling in transgender medication case

Days after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states can prohibit abortion, Alabama has seized on the decision to argue that the state should also be able to ban gender-affirming medical treatments for transgender youths. The case marks one of the first known instances in which a conservative state has tried to apply the abortion ruling to other realms, just as LGBTQ advocates and others were afraid would happen. Critics have expressed fear that the legal reasoning behind the high court ruling could lead to a rollback of decisions involving such matters as gay marriage, birth control, and parental rights. The state is asking a federal appeals court to lift an
