Democrat Party Convention Adopts Platform Which Does not Reflect Alabama Values

The Democrats wrapped up their National Convention last week after nominating Joe Biden to be their presidential nominee.

And there were several speakers from the state including Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin and United States Congresswoman Terri Sewell, but the most consequential name to speak at the convention from Alabama was Senator Doug Jones.

It should be no surprise that Jones would speak at his party’s convention, but it is his party’s platform that should send a message to Alabama voters since the Democratic Senator is in a battle for reelection against Republican Tommy Tuberville.

The platform supports rolling back President Donald Trump’s tax cuts and deregulations which boosted the economy before the pandemic struck.

The Democrat platform also fully embraces abortion and would require taxpayers and religious organizations to pay for contraceptives at the expense of religious liberties.

Finally, despite a sharp rise in violent crime due in part to recent riots in large urban areas, the Democrat Party is supporting efforts to redirect funds away from local law enforcement acceding to the demands of the far left of the party.

These positions will not fly with Alabama voters.  Jones will surely try to distance himself from the party platform but he cannot deny the written and adopted platform of his chosen party.

Plus, the election between Tuberville and Jones could very well decide which party controls the United States Senate. If Jones is elected, his leadership vote in the Senate would no doubt be for Chuck Schumer and that could very well make Schumer the majoirty leader and hand control of the Senate to the Democrat Party.

When Alabamians go to the polls in November they should be keenly aware that their vote could decide which party controls the United States Senate when they choose between Tuberville and Jones.
